Dr. Popham received his undergraduate degree with honors at the University of Notre Dame and attended medical school at the University of Kentucky. He completed his internship and residency at Wright State University in Ohio. During his medical residency, he received the Upjohn Achievement Award for excellence in medicine. Dr. Popham received a fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of Louisville. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and in Gastroenterology. He is one of the founding partners of Louisville Gastroenterology Associates.

More recently, he has been recognized by the University of Louisville as an Associate Professor, teaching medical students and residents. Norton Healthcare also inducted Dr. Popham into their 90th Percentile Physicians Club in recognition of patient satisfaction scores among the top 10 percent of physicians.
